Day Eleven of #30dayscleansingchallenge

I see a lot of visible changes in my body after 10 days of cleansing. Feels like my top layer of dead skin just peeled off and glowing. Much reduced acne and heat boils too. I haven’t checked my weight during the start of the challenge, however I would do that after 30 days detox. I have also been eating lots of fresh fruits and mildly cooked veggies. Then all of a sudden I am all about smoothies! Not the traditional one with cholesterol and unwanted toxins in them. I always make healthy smoothies with a blend of available ingredients (i.e) just chop and dump whatever is in the house :D And trust me it has worked wonders! But one warning: Do not mix citrus and melon— they are bad buddies and cause bloating when in the tummy. So I always have watermelons and muskmelons separately as a midday snack.

So moving on to today’s creation, I made a very refreshing combo. This is basically consumed as juice (smoothies sans fibres) but I dot want to lose the good stuff so I kept em all. Yeah, juices are filtered and the essential pulp and fibres are removed, which is not of much use to the body. Stick to well blend smoothies.

What is in it?

Apples: An apple a day, keeps the doctor away. Well, that is exactly true.

  • Apple peel contains ursolic acid, which accelerate calorie burn and help in weight loss.

  • Malic acid and Tartaric acid helps in liver and digestive system functioning.

  • Pectin preserves the protein in the intestine from going bad.

  • Quercetin promotes lung functioning.

  • Triterpenoids fights agains breast, liver and colon cancer.

  • Flavonoids and Polyphenols are great antioxidant compounds.

Carrots: Cleanse the body overall. They too keep doctors away ;)

  • Vitamin A decreases bile and fat that could build up in the liver and cause detrimental problems with the rest of the body.

  • Minerals found in carrots also help to prevent any damage to teeth.

  • Beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, and lutein are all essential components to help prevent heart disease.

  • Falcarinol and falcarindiol found in carrots are responsible for providing the body with cancer-fighting properties.

Ginger: We have already seen this amazing rhizome’s magic in tea-tox blogpost.

Cucumbers: Phytonutrients found in cucumbers provide us with valuable antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer benefits. Specific phytonutrients provided by cucumbers include

  • Flavonoids (apigenin, a luleolin, a quercetin, a kaempferol)

  • Lignans (pinoresinol, lariciresinol, secoisolariciresinol)

  • Triterpenes (cucurbitacin A, cucurbitacin B, cucurbitacin C, cucurbitacin D)

How to do it?

  1. Wash and dry the fruits/vegetables.

  2. Arrange in a beautiful basket and take pictures (totally optional, but highly recommended).

  3. Chop chop.

  4. Dump into a huge blender and shred them, Add water little to make them into smoothies.

  5. Chill and drink.

You can totally jazz it up with more fruits of your choice. Do not add any sweeter as carrot and apple are already sweet enough with the kick of ginger. Enjoy your hot summer day; in a cool super way. Okay, that rhymed :P
